What can I expect if I visit?

Trinity at Christmas

Your first visit to Trinity?

Will I be welcome?

Yes of course, whoever you are. We are always delighted to see visitors, you’ll get a friendly welcome, but you won’t be buttonholed. You’ll typically find about 30 of us there.

What are the services like?

There will be a mixture of hymns, bible readings, prayers and usually an address, perhaps by a minister or a lay preacher, lasting about an hour. We do not use a formal prayer book.

Will I have to pay?

No. There is a collection during the service, but whether you choose to contribute is up to you. The money collected goes towards the upkeep of the church and the minister.

What sort of hymns do you sing?

We enjoy singing a mixture of traditional and modern hymns. Singing is accompanied on the pipe organ, one of the few left in the area.

Will I have to hold up my hands or shout Hallelujah?

That’s not generally our style, but there’s nothing to stop you.

How do I know when to kneel or stand?

We don’t kneel at all, but we like to stand to sing.    Don’t worry, just follow us

What should I wear?

Just wear whatever you are comfortable with. Some people like to dress casually, some prefer to be more formal.

What is Holy Communion?

We celebrate Communion during a morning service about once a month. It is a quiet symbolic meal which brings us together in re-enacting the last supper Jesus spent with his disciples. Token portions of bread and wine symbolising his suffering and death are distributed to those present by the stewards. They are consumed to the accompaniment of the traditional words Jesus spoke at the last supper.

Can I take part in Communion?

It is your decision, we make no conditions. To take part in the meal is to declare a sincere wish to follow in the way of Jesus. If you do not feel able to do this at the time, merely decline the bread and wine when offered – no one will mind, we are still glad to have you with us.  (By the way, in case you need to know,  the wine is non-alcoholic and the bread gluten-free)

Lonely, sad, struggling with life?

Perhaps we can help. Give us a call – you’ll find a list of contacts on the Contacts page of the website, or come along to a service and have a quiet word with one of the stewards at the door.

Can I bring children to church with me?

Yes, of course. We don’t currently have a regular Sunday School, but we do provide facilities for children as required with DBS checked carers.

What is your attitude to same-sex marriages?

At a recent church meeting, the membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of same-sex marriages being conducted in the church

Don’t you do anything other than hold services on Sunday?

We have a number of regular activities in the week and other organisations use our facilities too. We hold special social events from time to time mostly in the evenings, these are advertised on the website. Perhaps they would be a good way to “dip your toe in the water” with us? For further information ring 01952 813325.

What Christian tradition do you follow?

We are a Nonconformist church, meaning that we are not part of the Church of England or the Roman Catholic church. We do not have a strict system of belief or worship, but we draw on the traditions of the United Reformed and Methodist Churches. Our members hold to a range of viewpoints within these traditions. As we like to say:

Trinity Church seeks to enable people to explore the Christian way of faith, worship and service in a friendly and welcoming environment

Why not come and explore that way with us?
